Eupatorium capillifolium
Distinguishing Features: minute, wind pollinated heads on usually large, robust plants; leaves finely dissected .
Habitat: wet areas, can appear to be weedy
Geographic Distribution : primarily southeastern U.S.
Similar Species: Eupatorium compositifolium lacks glands on the phyllaries and pales; E. pinnatifidum has broader leaves
Molecular Data : samples of E. capillifolium (DNA #s ) are identical or nearly so to E. compositifolium and E. leptophyllum; these differ by a minimum of x indels and y bp from all other Eupatorium species
