Eupatorium x godfreyanum
Distinguishing Features: Eupatorium godfreyanum applies to some but not all plants that are hybrid derivatives of E. sessilifolium and E. rotundifolium - the leaves are more broadly lance-ovate than in E. sessilifolium, and the stems are pubescent as in E. rotundifolium.
Habitat: open areas, old fields and waste places.
Geographic Distribution: sporadically occurring in eastern U.S., particularly in the southern Appalachian region.
Similar Species: Eupatorium rotundifolium leaves that are ovate, usually less than 5 cm long, and have 3 main nerves from the base; E. sessilifolium has glabrous stems.
Molecular Data : samples of E. x godfreyanum (DNA #s 822, 823, 2364) are characterized by indel bp polymorphisms expected from a combination of E. sessilifolium and E. rotundifolium.Image of specimen of Eupatorium godfreyanum
